Jonathan L. Hood, Esq.

Founder and Managing Attorney

After serving as the General Counsel of a leading edtech startup, Jon started Hood Venture Counsel, P.C. in 2014 with the goal of providing growing companies with quality legal representation and counsel from someone who’s sat on the other side of the table.

Since founding the firm, Jon has worked with hundreds of companies in a wide range of industries. Jon’s practice focuses primarily on corporate, contractual, regulatory, and intellectual property matters, and his experience working in-house at a growing company allows him to act as a trusted advisor to his clients.

A large portion of Jon’s practice consists of acting as a fractional General Counsel to his clients – providing the same broad-based, solutions-oriented services that a full-time in-house lawyer would. This includes not just personally providing legal services but working with other advisors and attorneys to address complex problems in an efficient way. Jon’s clients appreciate his approachable manner and his willingness to go the extra mile in meeting their objectives.

Prior to starting the firm, Jon served as the General Counsel of TestingMom.com, one of the Web’s premier educational platforms. As General Counsel, Jon was responsible for compliance, transactional, corporate, intellectual property, and regulatory matters.

Jon has dabbled in various other business ventures and loves the challenge of helping build a company from the ground up. He spends most of his free time gardening, volunteering with local animal rescues and “working on” a 40-year old French car, the latter very much without his wife’s approval.

Jon graduated cum laude from the Pace University School of Law, where he was an Articles Editor of the Pace Law Review. He was admitted to practice in New York in 2012.

A native of Oakton, Virginia, Jon earned his Bachelor of Science in psychology from Longwood University.
